Styling Marcel Breuer’s ‘Cesca’ Chairs
The ‘Cesca’ chair has been referred to as “one of the ten most important chairs in the 20th century.” Nearly 100 years after its debut, Marcel Breuer’s iconic chair has not lost an ounce of popularity since.
Adorably named after Breuer’s adopted daughter, Francesca- the iconic Cesca chair has indeed made its mark around the world. The design originated from combining and connecting industrial style with traditional craftsmanship. The chairs tubular steel frame meets with hardwood and cane. Creating a very balanced yet classic feel that could work in many different spaces. Fun fact: it was one of the first chairs mass produced with tubular steel. Throughout the decades, the chair has had three official manufacturers: Knoll, Thonet and Gavina.
The chairs simplistic lines and modern forms aid in it’s popularity and ability to never go out of style. The neutral materials seem to be able to fit into almost any aesthetic, various spaces and of course within the past and present.
