About The Designer
Alessandro Becchi was born in 1946 in Florence, Italy. He went on to study at ISIA (Istituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche) where he became a designer.
Out of school he began crafting and creating, designing the iconic ‘Anfibio’ sofa in 1971. A year later, he was invited to the MoMA in New York for the exhibition "ltaly: the New Domestic Landscape" where he presented the Anfibio. Around this date is when Becchi began collaborating with manufacturer Giovannetti.
Those who were involved in this partnership understood Becchi to be someone who brought the company a fresh new feeling, one that placed emphasis on innovation and deep love for every project. It is also said that Becchi had a very close working and personal relationship with Benito Giovannetti. The collaboration ended in 1987. with the death of Becchi.
Alessandro Becchi’s legacy forever lives on with his ‘Anfibio’ sofa now in 12 contemporary art museums around the world as part of permanent collections.
