The Walcott-Coolidge Home designed by Edward Fickett in 1958
Supreme california living was the concept architectural giants were following during the boom of 1950s architecture. It was an experimental fusion between indoor and outdoor spaces that allowed in plenty of light, followed clean straight lines and took advantage of natural materials.
Edward fickett too followed this concept shown in his 1958 build in encino hills. The home was in its complete original condition for decades before the perfect owners took over.
Talented ceramist, Warner Walcott and famous interior photographer Jonn Coolidge fell in love with the bright and airy home. While many would look past the mid-century home and would rather scrap it and build over, the pair marvelously transformed it while preserving many of the original details.
The floor plan was kept along with the wood-paneled ceilings. Walcott and coolidge did change the tile floor for walnut leaving the home even more cozy than before. While the kitchen became their biggest challenge, it ended up working out perfectly. In order to maintain the original heath tile, while expanding the counter space - they left the tile in tact, ripped out the washer and dryer, leaving plenty of storage space and switched out old appliances for state-of-the-art ones.
VIA VALLEY MODERN
Walcott and Coolidge we’re the perfect pair to restore this mid-century modern masterpiece and we are in love with the results. They enhanced Fickett’s original designs while updating and upgrading key aspects. We particularly love the injection of vintage design in the home which transcends the typical mcm interiors we see. Instead, they opted for much more modern and luxurious items that keep the space fresh and fun.
