Lake House Designed by Robert G. Becker, Sammamish, Washington, 1979
Featured on the cover of the January 1979 issue of House Beautiful, architect Robert G. Becker’s ‘House of the Future’ (dubbed by the publication), at Lake Sammamish is a one-of-a-kind architectural experiment.
We are in love with the sunken lounge area covered in gorgeous golden carpet that carries through to the entire house. All of the carefully thought out details are obvious to anyone who views this architectural masterpiece. Clearly the architect pulled much inspiration from geometric elements shown within the encased steel portal frames on the walls and ceilings to the circular mobiles floating gently above. This light and airy retro space is truly a dream.
We are very saddened that the home has been fully remodeled, changing almost everything but the bones. This is often what happens to vintage homes that are purchased by those who have no interest in restoring and instead opt for a full remodel. It is our goal to share as many vintage homes that are in the process of being sold in hopes that we can save them from being demolished.
Take a look below at the last known photos of the home after its renovation.

It’s no surprise that celebrities have the ability to acquire some of the most rare and incredible pieces of design. We are thrilled to see faces we look up to, enjoying vintage design as much as we do.
