Giancarlo Piretti
Giancarlo Piretti was born in 1940 in Bologna, Italy. He studied at the Bologna Art Academy and graduated with a degree in art education. He simultaneously worked as a furniture designer for Castelli while teaching interior design at the same institution for seven years. In 1971, he received the SMAU prize for the “Plia” chair.
In 1975, Piretti became an advisory member of the ISIA Design College in Florence before working for Castilia, a subsidiary of Castelli in 1984-86.
Piretti receievd many awards throughout his successful career, including, the Gute Form award by the German Design Council, Darmstadt (1973), National Industrial Design Award, United States (1980), the Compasso d’oro (1991), the Roscoe Award (U.S.) (1994).
